De Ont-moeting is a choreographic solo piece for a classical dancer live accompanied by Fratres of Arvo Pärt. The dancer embodies a ‘pas de deux’ between the ego and the soul in interplay with live musicians. The piece is inspired by the Liber Novus of Carl Gustav Jung, his dualistic journey resonates – trough the choreography – with the typical tintinnabuli-style of Pärt. According to Jung the acceptation of the dualism between lightness and darkness, high and low, male and female, history and future, beauty and ugliness etc. is crucial for the individuation process; distinction creates significance. The supreme distinction that Jung proposes thrives in the individual itself: between the ego and the soul, the mutual recognition of these two essences is fundamental to reach the highest form of self-realization, which ultimately transcends from the temporal in the eternal trough the synthesis of the creation: the (intellectual) fruits contributing over time. De Ont-moeting is not just a performance, but rather a real encounter with the person behind the artist: a journey to yourself.
